  Q. 1. What courses are offered at the National Museum Institute, New Delhi?
  Ans. M.A. and Ph.D. courses are offered in the disciplines of History of Art, Conservation, and Museology.
     
  Q. 2. Are the courses offered as full-time regular courses?
  Ans. Yes.
     
  Q. 3. When are the admissions announced?
  Ans.
The admission to M.A. and Ph.D. programmes are announced on the Institute’s website and also advertised in leading Hindi and English dailies in the month of May.
     
  Q. 4. Is there a provision of filling the admission and examination forms online?
  Ans. No.
     
  Q. 5. Are the examinations conducted semester-wise?
  Ans. Yes, there are four semesters for the M.A. programme. The examinations are held in the month of May and December.
     
  Q. 6. Is the Institute well-connected to distant places in Delhi?
  Ans.

Yes, the closest metro station is Udyog Bhawan. The other metro station which is nearby is Central Secretariat. The Institute can also be reached by bus. The following bus numbers will drop you close to the Institute:

  Q. 7. What is the eligibility criteria for applying to the M.A. and Ph.D. courses in History of Art, Conservation, and Museology?
  Ans.

M.A. (History of Art): A Graduate Degree from an Indian University recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or a recognized foreign University with minimum 50% marks. Desirable: A Background in Social sciences, Liberal Arts or Fine Arts.

M.A. (Conservation): A Graduate Degree from an Indian University recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or a recognized foreign University with minimum 50% marks in any one of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology or Visual/Fine Arts or Architecture, Engineering and Technology OR A graduate degree from recognised university in any of the following subjects: History, Geography, Anthropology, Archaeology or related disciplines with minimum 50% marks and 10+2 / Senior secondary/ Intermediate level education in Science stream.

M.A. (Museology): A Graduate Degree from an Indian University recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or a recognized foreign University with minimum 50% marks. The degree can be B.A. /B.Sc. (Honour’s) or B.A./B.Sc./BFA. in any discipline under Humanities and Social Science/ Science. Desirable: A Background/PG Diploma in subjects related to History of Art and Museum studies. Desirable: Knowledge of one Classical / Foreign language such as Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin, German, French, Italian other than mother tongue will be an additional qualification for the purpose of M.A. courses.

Ph.D. (History of Art): Any Person holding a Master Degree with minimum 55% marks in M.A. History of Art / History / Archaeology / Anthropology / Aesthetics or its equivalent from a recognized University / Institute.

Ph.D. (Conservation): Any Person holding a Master Degree with minimum 55% marks in M.A. Conservation or Master Degree in Chemistry / Physics / Life Sciences / Museology / Architecture its equivalent from a recognized University / Institute.

Ph.D. (Museology): Any Person holding a Master Degree with minimum 55% marks in Museology or Master Degree in History / Ancient Indian History and Archaeology or its equivalent from a recognized University / Institute.

     
  Q. 8. What is the criteria for getting selected to the M.A. and Ph.D., and short-term courses?

  Q. 9. Can I apply for two courses simultaneously?
  Ans. Yes, but separate admission forms must be filled.
     
  Q. 10. Is there a possibility of shifting from one M.A. course to another at the Institute?
  Ans. Yes, subject to your selection and availability of seats in the desired course.

  Q. 12. What are the minimum academic requirements to obtain Master’s degree?
  Ans.
A student of M.A. course has to pass 13 papers, qualify one language, present 2 seminars and submit 1 dissertation in order to complete the course.
     
  Q. 13. What are the minimum academic requirements to obtain Ph.D. degree?
  Ans.
A research scholar has to present two seminars, finish the Ph.D. course work, and submit six-monthly research reports at the stipulated time. The other academic requirements are as per the latest UGC regulations.
     
  Q. 14. What are the language options offered by the Institute?
  Ans.

A student of this Institute can study either of the following languages:

Sanskrit, Tamil, Prakrit, Persian, Arabic, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Greek, and Tibetan.

The Institute offers classes for the following languages:

Sanskrit, Persian, French, and German.

     
  Q. 15. Can a student pursue language course from some other institution simultaneously?
  Ans. Yes, but it is mandatory to inform the Assistant Registrar (Academic) about the same.
     
  Q. 16. Regarding reservation, what policy is followed for the admission process?
  Ans. The Govt. of India rules pertaining to the reservation policy (SC/ST/OBC/Differently-abled) is followed.
     
  Q. 17. Are foreign students also eligible to apply for the M.A. and Ph.D. courses?
  Ans. Yes, foreign students may also apply for the M.A. and Ph.D. courses.
     
  Q. 18. Is there any scholarship/fellowship provided by the Institute to its students?

  Ans. Yes, the Institute permits its students to complete their course in either Hindi or English.

  Ans. All the three disciplines on offer are a combination of theory and practical sessions.

  Ans.
Currently, the Institute does not have hostel facility. A new campus is being built in Noida and it has the hostel facility as well.

I am a government employee having a genuine interest in the courses offered by you. Am I eligible to apply for the same at your Institution?
  Ans.
A government employee wishing to pursue the full-time M.A. and Ph.D. courses at our Institute has to produce a duly signed No-Objection Certificate and must produce the evidence of leave granted to be able to pursue these programmes.

  Q. 28. When are the admission to short-term courses advertised and when do the classes actually begin?
  Ans.
The advertisement for the short-term courses are announced on the Institute’s website (nmi.gov.in) and also advertised in leading Hindi and English dailies usually in the month of June/July. The classes begin in the month of August.
     
  Q. 29. Does the Institute have library facility?
  Ans.
Yes, the bonafide students of the National Museum Institute, New Delhi can refer to the library of the Institute as well as the National Museum, New Delhi.
     
  Q. 30. Is there an availability of a conservation laboratory?
  Ans.
Yes, the Institute has a well-equipped conservation laboratory which the bonafide students of the Institute can use for academic and research purposes. In addition to this, the students are also allowed to use the laboratory of the National Museum, New Delhi.
     
  Q. 31. Does the Institute also conduct study tours?
  Ans. Yes, the Institute conducts educational/study tours at different parts of the country for its students.

  Q. 34. Are students liable to pay fee at the time of admission?
  Ans. Yes, a student is liable to pay his/her fees before the Commencement of class.
     
  Q. 35. Is the fee to be paid at the Institute or at Bank?
  Ans.
The student will receive a fee Book after making the payment of Enrolment Fee, Registration Fee and Caution Money at the office of the Institute. The semester fee is payable at the Bank through Fee Book.
     
  Q. 36. Is the fee payable on monthly basis, quarterly basis, half yearly basis or yearly basis?
  Ans.
Students pursuing post-graduation are expected to pay their fee on semester basis i.e. half yearly basis while students pursuing Ph.D. are supposed to pay the fee on yearly basis
     
  Q. 37. Is the payment of fee linked with the issuance of Identity Card and Library Card?
  Ans. Yes. The Identity Card & Library Card are issued after the payment of due fees.
     
  Q. 38. Can a student get a duplicate fee book in case the issued fee book is lost?
  Ans. Yes, a student can get a new fee book after making a nominal fee in case the Fee Book is lost.
     
  Q. 39. Is the student fee sufficient for the running of the Institute?
  Ans. No, student fee is not sufficient for the running of the Institute. Govt. of India supports the Institute through Grants-in-Aid
     
  Q. 40. Which mode of payment is used by the Institute to pay the salary to its staff?
  Ans. Institute is making the payment of salary to its staff through transfer of amount to their S.B. Account through NEFT.
     
  Q. 41. Is the Institute preparing its Annual Accounts on prescribed format as applicable for Central Autonomous Bodies?
  Ans. Yes, the Institute is preparing its Annual Accounts on prescribed format as applicable for Central Autonomous Bodies.
     
  Q. 42. Are the Accounts of the Institute open to audit through C & A.G?
  Ans.
Yes, the C & A.G. regularly carries out the audit at the Institute through the office of the Director General (Audit) Central Expenditure I.P. Estate, New Delhi
