Hundreds of inscriptions, manuscripts and coins in Indian museums, ASI, archives apart from archaeological sites and monuments are waiting to be worked upon by experts with degrees in the disciplines of Palaeography, Epigraphy & Numismatics. The Institute has, therefore, introduced the first ever Master’s degree program in this discipline. The eminent Indologist, Art historian and historian Prof. Dr. Anupa Pande heads the Department. Dr Nikita Rathore and Mehak Sejwal are the Assistant Professors and Prasanna Khanvilkar is the Research Assistant in the Department.
The Department offers a wide range of courses on Indian Palaeography, Epigraphy and Numismatics as well as inscriptions of South-East Asia. It also organizes special lectures and workshops by distinguished scholars from India and abroad to expand the knowledge base of the students. A diverse community of eminent scholars, archaeologists, epigraphists, Museum Curators and Historians, are regularly invited by the department as guest faculty. This creates a vibrant environment and students get the opportunity to interact and learn from highly experienced professionals. |
