The Department places a high emphasis on its research programme and activities and is strongly committed to mentoring and training research students in a variety of interdisciplinary approaches, methodologies and issues for the development of research skills. The Department has established collaboration with a number of institutions/organisations both at the national and international levels, in order to foster and support good quality research in conservation of art and cultural heritage. The research activities within the department cover a wide range of areas and disciplines applied to art and cultural heritage conservation, including conservation science for the study of ancient materials, fabrication techniques and mechanism of deterioration, and the development of innovative methods and materials for conservation treatments of various types of works of art.
