The candidate should possess such qualifications as may be prescribed by the Academic Council from time to time. Presently, the following qualifications are prescribed for various courses:

M.A. (History of Art):
A Graduate Degree from a recognized University. Good academic record with minimum 50% marks or equivalent grade at the graduate level.
Desirable: A background in Social Sciences, Liberal Arts or Fine Arts. |

M.A. (Conservation):
A graduate degree from a recognised university in any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology or Visual/Fine Arts or Architecture, Engineering and Technology with minimum 50% marks.
OR
A graduate degree from a recognised university in any of the following subjects: History, Geography, Anthropology, Archaeology or related disciplines with minimum 50% marks and 10+2 / Senior Secondary / Intermediate level education in science stream. |

M.A. (Museology):
A graduate degree from a recognised university in any of the following subjects: Arts, Science, Social Science and Humanities with minimum 50% marks.
Desirable: A Background/PG Diploma in subjects related to History of Art and Museum studies. |

Desirable:
Knowledge of one Classical / Foreign language such as Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin, German, French, Italian other than mother tongue will be an additional qualification for the purpose of M.A. courses.
Eligibility for in-service personnel:
In service personnel working with Central Government / State Government / Autonomous organization / Universities funded by Central or State Government / NGOs (in that order) with at least 5 years regular service, having the above required qualification, will also be eligible to apply.

Candidates seeking admissions to M.A. courses, are expected to pass (50% marks) a written test followed by interview. Keeping in view the number of seats available, the candidates, in order of merit only, will be admitted.
