On site Lecture and Tour at National Museum (20th July, 2022)
The Department of History of Art has organised an onsite lecture and tour of the ongoing exhibitions on ‘Company Painting: Visual Memoirs of Nineteenth-Century India’ and ‘Kashi: The Eternal City at the National Museum for M.A 2nd and 4th semester students on 20th July 2022. The lecture and tour was given by Dr. Savita Kumari, Assistant Professor of History of Art, NMI, along with Ms. Supriya, Lahoti, Consultant, National Museum. The onsite lecture helped the student in understanding and study the rare collection of Company painting from various museums. In another exhibition on Varanasi, the students saw the diverse collection of artworks that attempts to trace the religious, cultural, and creative aspects of the oldest city ‘Kashi’ through material history, memory, and mythology. They also studies the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage with reference to Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor.The students also got the chance to meet the eminent artists Gulam Mohammed Sheikh and Nilima Sheikh in the Company painting exhibition. |
