A special lecture on the "Art of Sarnath" as a part of its course on Early Indian Art by Dr B.R. Mani, Director General, National Museum and Vice Chancellor, National Museum Institute
The department of History of Art organized a special lecture on the ‘Art of Sarnath’ on 11th April 2019 as a part of its course on Early Indian Art. The lecture was delivered by Dr B.R. Mani, Director General, National Museum and Vice Chancellor, National Museum Institute. Dr Mani spoke about the various phases of excavations at the site. He shared his own experience of excavating the Buddhist site, and talked about the findings from the excavation. His lecture also dealt with the aesthetic features of the Sarnath School of art and its impact on other schools within the country and in the south-east Asian countries of Thailand and Java. The lecture was organized for the students of second and fourth semester of the department and it helped them understand about the art of Sarnath from both aesthetic and archaeological standpoints. |
